Salus does not require an account and does not send your in-app health, fitness, nutrition, journal, or progress-photo data to a Salus server. Core processing and storage occur on your iPhone. Salus has no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking.
1. Plain-language summary
- You choose which Apple Health categories Salus may read.
- Health records and calculated wellness results are processed on your device.
- Nutrition search and barcode lookup use a database bundled with the app and work offline.
- Nutrition and Supplement Facts recognition uses Apple Vision on the device. The captured label image is discarded after processing.
- Progress photos you deliberately save remain as protected local app copies until you delete them.
- Salus does not sell personal information, use health data for advertising, or provide health data to data brokers.
- Apple handles App Store purchases. Salus does not receive your full payment-card details.
This summary helps explain the policy but does not replace the details below.
2. Scope and responsibility
This Privacy Policy describes how the Salus - Health application (“Salus”), its Apple Watch app, widgets, related system extensions, and the Salus website handle information. “We,” “us,” and “our” refer to Rylan Hayes, an individual developer based in the United States. Rylan Hayes is the person responsible for Salus’s data practices and is not acting on behalf of another company.
This policy does not govern Apple, Apple Health, a wearable manufacturer, another source app, your email provider, or a third-party website. Those parties handle information under their own terms and privacy policies.
3. Information used and stored by the app
Depending on the features you choose, Salus may use or store the following information locally on your device:
- Profile and preferences: name, age or date of birth, sex selection, height, weight, schedule, mobility context, wearable selection, dashboard layout, units, display settings, notification settings, and privacy controls.
- Apple Health records: authorized sleep, workout, heart-rate, resting-heart-rate, heart-rate-variability, respiratory-rate, blood-oxygen, temperature, active-energy, distance, elevation, step, stand-hour, VO2 max, workout-effort, sport-metric, power, route, and related source/device information available to Salus.
- Calculated results: readiness, recovery, stress, sleep, training-load, Energy Reserve, Fitness Age, trends, confidence, comparisons, and other general-wellness summaries generated from available records.
- Information you enter: goals, habits, notes, journal entries, symptoms, illness, travel, medication context, workouts, sets, effort, route information, body measurements, corrections, and custom values.
- Nutrition: date-specific food and supplement selections, custom foods and supplements, favorites, saved meals and recipes, recipe ingredients and cooked yields, preferred portions, preparation instructions, meal timing, quantities, notes, targets, label-capture results, and available nutrient values.
- Cycle: optional local period-start and flow logs, symptoms, temperature, cervical-mucus quality, user-logged test results, notes, calendar estimates, reminder choices, local export settings, source/provenance information, and local suppression markers for HealthKit records you choose to hide.
- Photos: progress photos you deliberately select or capture and save in Salus.
- App operation: local import checkpoints, source-resolution state, settings, purchase entitlement state provided by StoreKit, widget snapshots, and data needed to keep the app reliable.
Salus uses this information to provide the feature you requested: import and reconcile records, calculate and display wellness information, search food, log nutrition, maintain plans and journals, show widgets, send local reminders, protect app access, and troubleshoot local app state.
4. Apple Health and HealthKit
Salus requests HealthKit access only through Apple’s permission interface. Apple controls the authorization flow. You can grant or deny categories individually and change access later in iOS or the Health app.
Reading and writing are separate choices in Apple’s authorization sheet. If you allow workout writing, Salus may save only:
- completed workouts you record in Salus; and
- active energy you enter for those workouts; and
- distance and route coordinates Salus actually records during an opted-in workout route.
Workout sharing does not require an Apple Watch selection. Salus does not write estimated heart rate, estimated calories, scores, recommendations, notes, sets, or profile values.
When you open Cycle’s separate Apple Health control, Salus may request read/write access only for menstrual flow, intermenstrual bleeding, basal body temperature, cervical-mucus quality, ovulation-test results, and progesterone-test results; it may read the related irregular, infrequent, prolonged-period, and persistent-intermenstrual-bleeding categories. Salus writes only structured fields you separately confirm: menstrual flow, intermenstrual bleeding when you log spotting, basal body temperature, cervical-mucus quality, ovulation-test results, and progesterone-test results. It never writes Cycle symptoms, notes, forecasts, phases, associations, safety cues, demo records, scores, recommendations, nutrition logs, workout sets, profile values, corrections, or estimated calories. Salus may delete only a Cycle sample it created, after a separate confirmation; external Apple Health records are read-only in Salus and can be hidden locally with a suppression marker.
HealthKit information is not used for advertising, marketing, data mining, or sale. It is not disclosed to data brokers. Salus does not combine HealthKit information with an advertising profile.
HealthKit limits what an app can infer about denied read permissions. As a result, Salus may be unable to distinguish a denied category from a category with no available records. Where possible, the app explains this limitation rather than claiming permission was denied.
5. Camera, photo library, barcode, and text recognition
Camera access is used when you choose barcode capture, Nutrition Facts or Supplement Facts capture, or an in-app photo feature. Barcode frames are analyzed on the device. Exact matches are looked up in the offline catalog.
For Nutrition Facts or Supplement Facts capture, Salus uses Apple Vision to recognize text on the device. It may enhance and examine overlapping regions from the same photo when the initial pass is incomplete. The source label image is transient and is discarded after processing; the extracted values remain only if you review and save them. Food and supplement diary entries are stored for the selected calendar day; repeating them on another day requires a separate add or an intentional copy action.
Nutrition planning can use age, height, weight, biological-sex choice, and training frequency stored in your local profile to calculate editable maintenance estimates. FDA Daily Values remain fixed label references. Neither the profile inputs nor the calculated nutrition targets are sent to the developer.
If you use Apple’s PhotosPicker, Apple provides only the items you select. Progress photos are different from transient label photos: a progress photo you save is copied into protected local Salus storage and remains until you delete it or remove Salus data.
6. Location, notifications, app lock, widgets, and purchases
Location and workout routes
Salus requests location only when you start a feature that needs it. During an explicitly started outdoor workout, Salus may use location in the background to record the active route. Route information is stored locally and, if you separately authorize an eligible completed-workout write, may be included with that Apple Health workout. Salus does not continuously track location outside an active route session.
Notifications
If permitted, Salus schedules reminders and status notifications through Apple’s local notification system. Cycle reminders are opt-in, use ordinary local notification delivery, and default to neutral “Salus reminder” text while private previews are enabled. Notification settings are stored locally. iOS and your device settings determine what appears on the lock screen.
App lock
If you enable app lock, Apple’s Local Authentication framework performs Face ID, Touch ID, or device-passcode authentication. Salus receives only the success or failure result and does not receive your biometric template.
Widgets, Live Activities, and Apple Watch
Salus may place a limited local snapshot in its Apple app-group container so its widget, Live Activity, or Watch app can display the information you selected. Language and measurement preferences may also be sent directly to the paired Salus Watch app through Apple’s Watch Connectivity framework and stored on the Watch. Cycle logs, symptoms, notes, estimates, and reminders are excluded from those snapshots and surfaces.
App Store purchases
Apple processes subscriptions, trials, lifetime purchases, restoration, cancellation, and refunds. Salus receives StoreKit transaction and entitlement information needed to unlock features, but does not receive your complete payment-card number. Apple handles purchase information under Apple’s privacy policy.
8. Website and support correspondence
This website is designed as a static site. We do not intentionally add advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, user accounts, or contact forms. The hosting provider may process basic request, IP-address, security, and diagnostic logs needed to deliver and protect the site under the provider’s own terms.
If you email support or privacy, we receive the email address, message, attachments, and other information you choose to send. We use it to respond, maintain support records, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes.
Where privacy law requires a legal basis, we process correspondence to answer your request or provide support, for our legitimate interests in operating and securing Salus, to comply with legal obligations, and with consent where the law requires it. Website hosting and email providers may process information in countries where they operate, subject to their contractual and legal safeguards.
Do not email health measurements, journal entries, progress photos, medical records, or other sensitive content. A concise description, app version, iOS version, device model, and steps to reproduce an issue are usually enough.
9. Local storage, retention, and security
Salus stores local information in Apple-protected application containers and uses iOS data-protection controls. Sensitive local stores are excluded from ordinary device backups where implemented. You are responsible for securing your iPhone, Apple Account, device passcode, and any device backup.
Local data remains until you delete individual records, use an available retention or deletion control, or delete the app. Cycle PDF and CSV files are generated locally in a protected temporary location, are cleaned when stale, and are not uploaded or retained by Salus. Deleting Salus local data does not delete original records held by Apple Health or another source. A separately confirmed Cycle deletion can remove only a sample Salus created; manage all other records in the Health app or the source that created them.
No security system is perfect. A compromised, jailbroken, unlocked, shared, or improperly backed-up device can expose local information. Salus cannot recover local data after deletion or device loss because it has no copy on a Salus server.
10. Your controls and privacy rights
- Apple Health: review or revoke category access in iOS or the Health app.
- Camera, photos, location, and notifications: review access in iOS Settings.
- Workout writes: keep the separate Salus sharing control disabled if you do not want Salus to request eligible writes.
- Cycle: keep Cycle hidden, delete local Cycle records, revoke Cycle Health access, locally hide an external HealthKit record, or separately remove a Salus-created Cycle sample from Apple Health.
- Local data: use Salus deletion and retention controls where available, or delete the app.
- App lock and previews: adjust Salus privacy and notification settings.
- Purchases: manage subscriptions through your Apple Account.
Privacy laws may provide rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information we hold. We generally do not hold your in-app local data and therefore cannot retrieve or act on it remotely. For support correspondence or other information you sent directly to us, contact support@salushealthapp.com. We may need to verify the request and may retain information where law permits or requires.
Salus does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. Because this site does not use advertising or tracking technology, a browser privacy signal such as Global Privacy Control does not change those practices. You may also complain to the privacy or data-protection authority where you live.
11. Children
Salus is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 through the app. If you believe a child sent personal information to our support email, contact us so we can review and delete it when required.
Minors who are permitted to use Salus should do so with a parent or legal guardian. Parents and guardians should review the app’s permissions, notification previews, and local records with the minor. Cycle tracking is unavailable to anyone under 18, and is available only for Female or Prefer not to say profile choices.
12. Policy changes and contact
We may update this policy to reflect changes in Salus, law, Apple requirements, or data practices. The revised effective date will appear above. If a future version begins a materially different collection or use, we will update the policy and provide any additional notice or consent required before that practice begins.
